Young people in Africa continue to face challenging life situations that threaten their well-being and their chance to achieve their full potential in life - particularly with the added risk of HIV and AIDS.

Maskew Miller Longman has recognised the need to provide young people with knowledge about HIV and AIDS so that they become aware of their rights and feel empowered to assert them.  We offer a wide range of material that stimulates the imagination and instill an awareness of social issues at a young age.  Our course material also broaches the issue of HIV and AIDS in a sensitive and caring fashion.

NEW LITERATURE FOR AIDS AWARENESS

I Know You Still Love Me is a powerful collection of stories which explores the emotional and social turmoil encountered by people living with HIV and AIDS. Judge Unity Dow, the famous novelist, humanitarian and High Court judge in Botswana, has gathered her stories from her family, her community and her court room. With her characteristic bravery and outspokenness, she has told in beautiful prose, of the many painful outcomes of AIDS. Her characters wrestle with loss, fear and shame, and the conflicting messages of modern science and traditional values. But amidst the pain, Judge Dow extracts tenderness, hope and even triumph. The stories are accompanied by notes and activities for Literature Study and Life Orientation.

"I Know You Still Love Me is a unique, empathetic collection of stories that young South Africans will enjoy reading, will relate to and learn from."
Cheryl Carolus
