Maskew Miller Longman Bursary - supporting schools and learners

MEC for Education in Gauteng, Angie Motshekga As a dedicated partner in education in South Africa, Maskew Miller Longman understands the need to encourage learners to continue their education. To ensure that this becomes a reality for disadvantaged learners we have been sponsoring bursaries for over 10 years, with a total value of approximately R1.5 million! The Maskew Miller Longman Busary is awarded to high school learners selected by the MEC for Education (or his/her designate) in each of the nine provincial education departments. Candidates from disadvantaged backgrounds who have a proven record of academic achievement throughout their high school career. If possible, learners studying Mathematics, Sciences or Technology. |

Each year the bursary provides over R150 000 in financial support to deserving learners across South Africa. The bursary demonstrates Maskew Miller Longman's fundamental commitment to education in our country. The Gauteng Learner Awards took place on 30 January 2009 at Utopia Place, Pretoria. The Department of Education awarded the R15 000 Maskew Miller Longman Bursary to two learners in the category for disadvantaged learners, Calvin Botha from Prinshof school and Donovan Bennett from School of Achievement. The Free State Learner Awards were held at the house of the Premier Beatrice Marshoff as part of the Matric Well Done function on the 30 December 2008, which was attended by both the Premier and the acting MEC for Education, Mr Mxolisi Dukwana. The R 15,000 bursary was split between 15 learners who each received R1, 000.00. |
