The Strollers by Lesley Beake, is a story about street children in Cape Town and today remains popular with young readers because of its realistic characters and genuine setting. Now past its twentieth reprint, it is to be included in a series entitled 1001 Children's Books produced by Quintessence which will be published internationally in many languages. The Strollers was the winner of the 1987 Maskew Miller Longman Young Africa Award About Lesley Beake Lesley Beake is an award winning South African author who writes stories about Africa for children and young people. She has published nearly 60 books and has been involved with commissioning and editing many more. Maskew Miller Longman commissioned Lesley as an expert on children's literature to facilitate the Maskew Miller Longman Literature Awards Children's Literature workshop across South Africa this year. We have received glowing feedback about the workshops which is a testament to the passion that Lesley has for children's literature. |
