The winners and finalists for our drama competition were announced on the opening day of the Cape Town Book Fair, 14th June 2008, at The Westin Grand Hotel in Cape.
About the Drama Competition The Maskew Miller Longman's second Literature Award competition launched in January 2007 focussed on the genre of drama and like the inaugural competition gave equal weighting to all official South African languages. We invited entries for original and unpublished drama manuscripts aimed at readers between the ages of 15 - 18 years. To assist writers with their entries we invited Prof. Roy Sargent,one of South Africa's most respected drama consultants, director of the Artscape New Writing Programme and producer of the annual Artscape Spring Drama Seasons, to host half-day drama workshops in all provinces. The official closing date for the competition was 31 July 2007. Total prize money up for grabs was R150 000 and winners stand a chance of having their plays produced and staged by the Artscape New Writing Programme and the Siyasanga Cape Town Theatre Company. Twelve prizes were awarded in the following nine language categories:
